SAN ANTONIO, Texas –The George Strait Team Roping Classic (GSTRC) is the largest open Team Roping event in America and, now in its 35th year, the two-day event held at the San Antonio Rose Palace Arena has awarded over $5 million in prize money to date and seen winners from across the nation crowned. This year’s event drew 516 teams of the greatest Team Ropers alive with $567,000 awarded in cash prizes.
Steeped in family tradition not just for the Strait’s but also for many of its competitors, the Team Roping Classic crowned competitors Aaron Tsinigine of Tuba City, Arizona and Clay Cooper of Gardnerville, Nevada roped 3-head in TIME seconds; the pair split $203,200 in prize money (full breakdown of rankings below). In addition, the pair also won 2017 Chevrolet Silverado Dually pickups from Cavender Chevrolet in Boerne, Texas and Bruton Strait Xtreme Trailers.
Friday’s festivities drew 1,032 ropers from all over the country, but eventually dwindled competitors down to the Top 50 teams after 13 hours of qualifying runs ¬¬¬¬leading into Saturday’s competition.
